About North Star Psychology

North Star Psychology is dedicated to helping people feel better and take back control of their lives. We specialize in treatments for OCD, PTSD, and Suicide Risk. We are one of the few practices that offer telehealth treatments for suicide risk, and we are experienced in working with clients who have made suicide attempts before.

We firmly believe that psychological treatment should be evidence-based, which means there has to be real data backing up the decisions made during therapy. We believe that it is unethical to waste our clients' time or money, which is why we work to move swiftly through treatments and help our clients achieve the most amount of progress as quickly as possible.

We really care about you and we want to help you feel better as quickly as possible.

We are dedicated to providing the best care and support for our clients.

bio

I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Quantitative Analyses. My clinical residency (internship) was at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where my clinical training focused on OCD therapy, PTSD treatments, and suicide prevention.

I’ve spent a lot of time doing therapy in different settings, including a general outpatient clinic, a hospital setting, a Federal Correctional Institute, a university-based clinic, and an alcohol and substance abuse center. This means that I bring a lot of different experiences to your treatment and can pull from training and past cases in different areas whenever needed.

A passion of mine is helping my clients make substantial improvements as quickly as possible, and I pride myself on the number of clients who finish therapy and move forward with their lives. While I have some clients that prefer a long-term approach to care (which I’m happy to do), I also have a number of clients that only need to meet with me about 10-12 times.

Part of this is because of my clinical training that was focused on evidence-based, time-limited treatments. While on my clinical residency, I participated in clinical trial research aimed at delivering PTSD and suicide prevention treatments as quickly as possible. We found that these treatments can be condensed down pretty substantially, and the treatment pace can often be accelerated well beyond what is “typical” in therapy. Basically, you get the benefit of a full course of treatment, but without as many “filler appointments.” This is a great way for me to respect your time and money, and to help you feel better quickly.

When I’m not doing therapy, I like to do research. I’m still actively publishing new manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, so feel free to ask me about that if you’re interested.

I’m always accessible to my clients via text, phone, or email between appointments, and I can usually figure out a way to work them in for an extra appointment or a phone call if something urgent comes up. That means you’re not alone when you’re working with me, I’m with you each step of the way!

If you’re looking for a psychologist who understand “complex” or “high-risk” cases, knows how to pull together different treatment methods when needed, and has a warm and friendly approach, then please reach out to me! I’d love to get to know you, learn about what’s been going on, and figure out if we’re a good fit. If it doesn’t look like I’m a good match for you, I can give you some tips for how to find someone else.
